Yar Hussain is a town in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan
about 25 kilometres (15.5 mi) from Mardan
. It is a very beautiful town with lush green fields all around and is the largest village of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It is the business centre of the surrounding locality, including Yaqubi
, Sard Chena, Ghazikot, Sadri Jadeed,Urmel Dehri, Sadri Qadeem, Sano Banda, Naiknam, Jagganat, Payende and Dobian. It is also the biggest Tobacco Business Centre. Most of the multinational companies Lakson Tobacco Company and Pakistan Tobacco Company have their purchase centres in Yar Hussain. The Tobacco produced is of a good quality. However, the rate of return for the farmers is much less compared to the profit margin for middlemen, companies and cigarette manufacturers. Yar Hussain is village of high cultural values, especially the hospitality. People serves their guests with open heart and smile. Much of the older traditions are still followed.
Yar Hussain has made modest development since independence. It is politically the stronghold of Awami National Party. Ever since the general elections started in the country, all provincial elections from this constituency have been won by ANP. However, this almost one party system where shows the strong commitment of Yousafzai Pakhtuns to Bacha Khan
and his mission, has also caused some negative impacts in the form of lack of electoral accountability of ANP candidates. In the absence of any pressure from electorates, the successful candidates mostly ignore developmental works. This phenomenon is not limited to Yar Hussain only but the whole Swabi. However, it is expected that the current provincial government will wash away this decade-old syndrome.
Yar Hussain has produced many talented people who are serving the nation in many disciplines. The village has been turned into commercial hub mainly because of surrounding small villages dependence on Yar Hussain's market. It has now New Adda at Mata Shagai where from Flyingcoachs go to Rawalpindi, Jehangira and Mardan.
Yar Hussain has a strong Jirga System comprising the elders (Masharan) of the village. Police Station Yar Hussain has also conciliatory committee (Maslehati Committee). The decisions, conciliation, mediation and arbitration of the Jirga are highly appreciable. Yar Hussain has seen very bad and worst enmities during the recent past. These problems were solved by the elders of the village. Most of the disputes among the people are solved by the Jirga System in time because it is speedy and cheaper justice. These elders have solved thousands of disputes in Yar Hussain and nearby villages without having personal benefits.
The ceremonies of marriage in Yar Hussain are conducted with traditional way of enthusiasm and spirit. Most of the families beautify their ceremonies with Drum (Dholkey). Mostly women in home sing traditional songs and TAPE with self made music of Drum. Almost all Hujras (guest houses) in Yar Hussain witnessed weakly music programs of Rabab, mangi and folk songs. However, over the recent years, music and sports are quickly disappearing which might be one the worst impacts of cold war and post 9/11 regional situation. Cultural damage is the highest cost which Yar Hussain has been paying for bad policies of international community. No one has even mentioned this irreversible loss to our rich culture.
