Professor Ke-gui Xin expert with international reputation, former head of Department of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University, has been appointed Deputy Dean of School of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University since 2005. One faculty of Tsinghua said the appointment of Xin is expected to enhance the School's already strong reputation and national ranking. The school's undergraduate education and graduate program both rank 1st in P.R. China.

Deputy Dean Xin said his vision for the School of Civil Engineering is to promote the intercommunication overseas and keep the peer faculties to create the advanced knowledge and educate the future engineering leaders to solve humankind's most emergent and pressing problems, including infrastructure construction, project management, sustainable civil engineering.

Prof. Ke-gui Xin was born in October 1950, Sichuan Province, China

. He began his college life when he was already 23 but he made progress fast. He received his B.Sc. in 1977, M.Sc. in 1983 form Tsinghua University, supervised by prof. Yu-qiu Long (Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering). Later he earned a Ph.D. from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Prof. Xin is a most famous expert of Civil Engineering in China, outstanding researcher and educator with strong reputation. Prof. Ke-gui Xin is a legend in structural mechanism education of Tsinghua and he founded an effective method in thin-walled structure analysis. As the best student of Prof. Yu-qiu Long, Xin was praised by Prof. Yu-qiu Long as "good student", "good friend" and "good leader". Long said, Prof. Ke-gui Xin is not only good at academic research but also good at management.

Xin now serves as deputy dean in School of Civil Engineering. Meanwhile, Xin, who is author and co-author of numerous scientific publications, is an editor and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Engineering Mechanics. He served on the editorial board of the Journal of Engineering Mechanics from 1997 and has contributed to numerous professional activities in structural engineering. Xin has had over 20 graduate students. Many of them have gone on to have distinguished careers themselves. And Ke-gui Xin has had 2 doctoral candidates and all of them are the best in Tsinghua (including Quan-quan Qi(2006), Ming-hua He(2007, co-conducted by Professor Yu-qiu LONG)).
