It would be likely for Worcester Shrub Hill to close, to justify the passenger numbers.

It would give the north of Worcester local commuter trains easing congestion on the A38. The close proximity to the M5 would draw in longer distance passengers.

It would not be anticipated to provide a major park and ride function, rather it would perform a local role if development proposals to increase the size of Fernhill Heath are approved in the forthcoming South Worcestershire Development Plan, which is currently being developed by the three South Worcestershire planning authorities (Wychavon District Council, Worcester City Council and Malvern Hills District Council).

If constructed, it is proposed that the new station would have two platforms on the existing double tracked line.
