He married his cousin, Constance Cecily Courtauld (daughter of George Courtauld (MP)

He was appointed High Sheriff of Essex

He paid for the William Julien Courtauld Hospital in Braintree, Essex, and also the recreation ground, fountain, buildings near the church and Braintree Town Hall which was built between 1926 and 1928. The Register Office was given in 1929.

He also donated the new county hall in Chelmsford in 1938.

He was created 1st Baronet Courtauld of Penny Pot, Essex on 5 July 1939. The Baronetcy became extinct on his death.
