Station history

Market Street Station was opened in 1875 by the West Chester and Philadelphia Railroad
West Chester and Philadelphia Railroad
The West Chester and Philadelphia Railroad operated in the greater Philadelphia area in the 19th century. It later became the West Chester Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad , and is now called the Media/Elwyn Line on the SEPTA system....

. It was rebuilt following a major fire in 1885. The main building was razed in 1968. The frame building erected in its place was closed and razed in 1986.

Except for the concrete platform, nothing remains of the former station; however, the foundation outline from the former building can be seen. The West Chester Railroad erected a small one-room station on site that serves as a ticket office and gift shop.
