Sidings

Waterfall has sidings for staging goods trains in either direction and a bypass track for goods trains on either side of the platforms (the 'Up and Down refuge loops'). There are also 3 sidings for the stabling of suburban electric trains to the east of the station.

Platforms and services

The station receives approximately two suburban trains an hour in off-peak, with more services in peak hours. South Coast line trains stop at the station every two hours in each direction. Other trains go directly from Sutherland to Helensburgh or vice-versa without stopping at Waterfall. Trains may terminate on either platform before returning to the city.

The station is served by three to four trains per hour each way, with additional trains during weekday peak hours.
