The station forms part of Project Evergreen 3, funded and managed by Chiltern Railways
. It would be served every half hour by trains running between London Marylebone and Oxford
. Chiltern Railways plans to open the station in 2013. The estimated journey time to London Marylebone would be about one hour.
The East West Rail Consortium's proposed rail service between Oxford and Milton Keynes Central
might also serve Water Eaton Parkway.
Water Eaton Parkway would serve Kidlington, north Oxford and nearby villages, and attract park and ride traffic from the busy A34 road. The existing car park would need to be enlarged for this purpose.
The station would be built on the site of the former Oxford Road Halt
, which was opened in 1905 and closed in 1926.
