Wang Yin is a native of Shezhou (present-day She County, Anhui) and used to be a stone craftsman. He is well versed in literary arts and military strategy and is appointed by Fang La

 as secretary of military affairs. In combat, Wang Yin wields a bronze spear and rides a stallion called "Huanzhuan Shanfei" (喚轉山飛), which moves across mountainous terrain and water as though it were treading on flat land.

As Wang Yin is a civil official, he does not have many opportunities to take to the battlefield. During the battle of Shezhou against Liangshan
