Shi Bao is a fictional character in the Water Margin

. Shi Bao is the South Departing Great General serving under the rebel leader, Fang La
, one of the antagonists and enemy of the 108 Liangshan
outlaws. Shi Bao is considered to be one of the deadliest warriors in the entire story due to his skill in surprise attacks, having slain five Liangshan heroes.
. He excels in martial arts and wields a Wind Splitting Saber, which is capable of slicing through three layers of heavy armour and distorting metal. He also uses a spiked mace in combat, which he throws at opponents with amazing accuracy after luring them to chase him. He rides on a yellow steed in battle.
During the war between the Liangshan
heroes and Fang La
's forces, Shi Bao slays five Liangshan heroes (Suo Chao
, Deng Fei
, Yan Shun
, Bao Xu
and Ma Lin) in various battles by surprise attacks. During his duel with Guan Sheng, after fighting for more than 20 rounds, Shi Bao feigns defeat and retreats to kill Guan Sheng with his flying mace. To Song Jiang
's surprise, Guan Sheng does not pursue the retreating Shi Bao and he returns to his camp. Guan Sheng explains later to Song Jiang that he believes that Shi Bao may be feigning defeat by retreating, because Shi's skill with the saber is comparable to his.
Shi Bao eventually commits suicide to avoid capture and humiliation after his army is defeated at the battle of Black Dragon Ridge by Liangshan forces under Guan Sheng's command.
