s. The signal used to reach about 7.5 million people but when the antenna moved to the Willis Tower as part of the digital transition the signal now has the same coverage as the major broadcasters in the area, reaching almost 11 million viewers in four states. Regular programming like JBTV

 that have a hard time getting distribution can pay to be on air for promotion and to gain a fan base. There is some locally produced programming and WJYS leases its digital sub-channels to other networks.

Overview

In the early 90s, WEHS Channel 60, then owned by Home Shopping Network, tried to buy WJYS, which was also operating as a 24 hour a day shopping channel. However, then regulations didn't permit a duopoly in Chicago, and the sale never went through.

In the mid 90s, WJYS tried to compete as a general market station, airing such shows as Laverne & Shirley

Unlike the analog transmitter once located in Tinley Park, WJYS-DT has a transmitter atop the Willis Tower on channel 36. It allows larger coverage and has sub channels.

Channel 62.4/36.4 is labeled PRISM and carries the same programming as 62.1 on a 2 hour delay with a small, increasing schedule of multi-cultural programs in Spanish
