. It forms a partial eastern bypass of downtown Staunton. SR 261 begins south of downtown at U.S. Route 11 (Greenville Avenue) and Old Greenville Road and heads northeast, north, and northwest across U.S. Route 250 (Richmond Road), State Route 254 (New Hope Road), and US 11 (Commerce Road), ending at Coalter Street and Edgewood Road north of downtown. Except between Commerce Road and Coalter Street, SR 261 is signed as U.S. Route 11 Truck.
