Urobilin (additionally and formerly known as urochrome) is a yellow linear tetrapyrrole, resulting from the breakdown of haem, a cyclic tetrapyrrole. Urobilin is produced when Urobilinogen is oxidized by intestinal bacteria. This in turn produces a brown pigment. It is absorbed into the blood stream and is excreted in urine that along with other chemicals and pigments, such as uroc

Urobilin (additionally and formerly known as urochrome) is a yellow linear tetrapyrrole, resulting from the breakdown of haem, a cyclic tetrapyrrole. Urobilin is produced when Urobilinogen is oxidized by intestinal bacteria. This in turn produces a brown pigment. It is absorbed into the blood stream and is excreted in urine that along with other chemicals and pigments, such as urochrome that gives urine its characteristic yellow color.

It is a sensitive marker for biliary obstruction, and early acute hepatitis as well.
