University Business School (formerly, Department of Commerce

Management
) has been imparting quality management education to develop dedicated, innovative and effective managers, researchers and teachers for four decades. The rechristening of the Department of Commerce and Business Management as University Business School (UBS) in 1995 by the Panjab University, symbolizes the recognition of completeness and maturity of the Department as a center of management education in India.
The transformation from a department to a school has given it a distinct identity as a 'School of Thought'. The philosophy of the management education at the UBS is built on an integrative value system
. It is motivated by duty bound work ethics, human approach and scientific temper. The philosophy of the school is translated into a mission of creating wholesome personality of human beings with a view to produce effective managers, researchers and teachers.

has very rightly said “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” The mission of UBS is not just to create efficient managers but also to transform them into leaders who can inspire. UBS conceives and undertakes its activities in a way that students are abreast of the recent trends in the field of management. Its adeptly designed and contemporary curriculum, delivered by a perfect blend of faculty from the intellectual bank of the School and the industry, make it one of the few management institutes in India with a structured Ph.D.
program.
Additionally UBS offers a three-year MBA (Executive) program for working professionals and a two-year M.Com (E-commerce) program, in addition to four full time MBA programs.
The A. C. Joshi library (Main Library) of Panjab University among the best libraries in India, with about a million volumes, including a fine collection of reference books and subscription to over 1500 journals and periodicals, is the parent library of UBS. In addition to this, UBS has an in-house library with more than 11,443 books and with a subscription to more than 152 journals, both Indian and International publications, thus enabling the students to find references relating to almost all branches of management.

The knowledge generated by UBS faculty has appeared in leading academic journals with high citation index and impact factor. Many text books and working papers are written on a regular basis. Research carried out by UBS is used to augment new courses and executive education programs. They contribute to international journals and collaborate with a broad range of agencies to develop and execute consultancy projects.

Alumni Cell - seeks to rejuvenate and foster relationships between the alumni and their alma mater, through seminars, guest lectures and reunions. A Silver Jubilee Alumni Reunion – 2010 was organized on December 24, 2010. The batch of 1985 was felicitated to mark the Silver Jubilee of their passing out from their alma mater. The Reunion was a continuation of the tradition of honoring the alumni thereby providing an opportunity to the students to get mentored by the alumni.
Hospitality Cell - ensures that delegates visiting the campus have a comfortable and memorable stay in the campus. We work in coordination with Business Club and Alumni Cell to have a detailed information regarding the delegates visiting the campus, and our work includes making arrangements for their lodging and travelling.

Joshi Library (Central Library) of Panjab University has a collection of over 6.4 lakh publications which include books, bound volumes of journals, theses/dissertations, rare books, reports, government documents, back files of newspapers, and a prized collection of 1490 manuscripts. The web based Online Public Access Catalogue(OPAC) makes it even more useful. The University Library has been recognized as one of the six national centres for data-information-distribution in the UGC's INFLIBNET program.The A. C. IT infrastructure
UBS has 50 computers connected to the main server of the University, thus providing direct access to the journals/books available on the University Library Server. The students also have access to the Internet for reference and communication. Moreover, the campus is Wi-Fi enabled.
