Interface

Like some of the previous games, Ultimate Mortal Kombat includes player profiles. From the main menu the player has access to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

, Puzzle Kombat and the options menu. The UMK3 menu is different in this version, with the four available options being Single Player (Arcade Mode), Local Wireless, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, and UMK3 Records. The Puzzle Kombat menu is similar. In the Wi-Fi Connection menu, friends can only be added to a player's list by exchanging a friend code with another person who owns the game.

New features for the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 portion of the game include:
  • unlockable characters remaining in the player's profile.
  • unlocked lost treasures (endings, bonus prizes) remaining unlocked.
  • secret codes which are entered via the touch screen.
  • ability to switch between the Nintendo DS's screens for gameplay.
  • online multiplayer.


Puzzle Kombat was also upgraded with online multiplayer.

Reception

The game has received generally positive reviews, more so than those for the Xbox 360's Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 port.
