School history

The school opened in 1930 as a senior school, then becoming a secondary modern school and finally a comprehensive in 1969. The school doubled in size during the 1990s and is one of the largest schools in Dorset. In May 2011 Twynham converted into an Academy.

s and 6 sets of netbooks. The students often use computers for projects, etc.

The school offers three different courses to take at GCSE level. These are:
  • iPro Software Development
  • ECDL


In addition, every classroom that is in the school is being updated to have projectors and interactive boards. Teachers use the projectors to show presentations, videos, etc.

Science facilities

Twynham School has 11 science labs. All labs are equipped with sinks, gas taps, and science equipment. The majority of GCSE students follow the dual award.

Technology facilities

Twynham school's technology block has two cookery rooms, one textiles room, three resistant material rooms and one graphics room, in addition to an IT room. Every student has to take a technology subject a GCSE level.

Extra Curricular Activities

There are many extra curricular activities including sports, music and drama.
