There was a financial agreement between the two clubs with Queens Park Rangers also promising to play a pre season fixture against the local side in the summer of 2011. QPR officially announced the signing on 14 March after some paperwork issues. Hewitt was given the number 42 shirt. He made his debut on 23 August, in the 2–0 home loss to Rochdale
