The station was opened in 1859 under the name of Eling Junction, but was changed to Totton soon after opening. The now freight-only Fawley Branch Line leaves the main line a short distance west of the station.

The Station has two platforms:

Platform 1 heads east towards Southampton, with the next station being Redbridge

Services

The station has a basic hourly off-peak service provided by the London Waterloo to stopping trains. This increases to half-hourly at peak times, when a few through trains to/from call. The Sunday service is also hourly in each direction.
