Wirtanen moved to Salo when he was under a year old and studied at Lauri's school. After the death of his father when he was 11 years old, his family moved back to Heinola. At this point, songwriting and drawing had become his only means to express his feelings.

Wirtanen is also known for having written numerous songs for the Finnish pop singer Irina
