Life and politics

Marshall was a senior partner with the law firm of Monaghan, Marshall, Murphy and Watton until his election and subsequent appointment to Cabinet in 2003 as Minister of Justice and Attorney General. He was appointed Minister Responsible for Intergovernmental Affairs on March 11, 2005. On December 29, 2006, he was appointed Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board until October 31, 2008, when he resumed responsibility as Minister of Justice and Attorney General. On October 7, 2009, Marshall was once again appointed Minister of Finance, President of Treasury Board, as well as Minister Responsible for the Public Service Secretariat and Minister Responsible for the Office of the Chief Information Officer.

In February 2011, Marshall was acclaimed as the candidate in his district for that year's election
