This Is This! is the thirteenth and final studio album by Weather Report
. The band thought that they had fulfilled their contract with Columbia Records
with the release of the previous album Sportin' Life
. This, however, was not the case and the band had to release one more record. Along with Sportin' Life, this record is considered by many to be their weakest, despite some inspired compositions and playing on some of the tracks on both albums. (The requirement from CBS to make an album was largely behind its creation.)
