Plot summary

The Hardy Boys vacation in San Francisco awaiting their next case, but a mystery smacks them in the face after Joe spots the mysterious Julian Ardyce, a millionaire and horse racing fanatic. Ardyce vanished after a horse called Nightmare disappeared after winning the local California Classic. Frank and Joe meet the horse's owner, Nina Glass, and her parents, and decide to work on the case. But answers are hard to come by in the California sunshine-especially when the Boys take an involuntary visit to Alcatraz! But the Boys stay on the case-with shocking results!
