TCR was formed from the remnants of the former Texas Federation of College Republicans in 2008. It elected Lance Kennedy

 as its first state chairman, adopted a new constitution and organizational structure, and affiliated with the Republican Party of Texas.

Activities

TCR and its members participate in the entire spectrum of Texas politics, attempting to shape the policies of the state of Texas through a number of means including educating students and the public, advocating conservative fiscal and social policies, campus activism, campaigning for political candidates, and testifying before the legislature.

Some of TCR's most well-known activities have been its speaker series held at universities across Texas. Speakers have included former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft

On November 11, 2011, UT (Austin) College Republicans president Lauren Pierce, who also serves as the Secretary of the Statewide Texas College Republicans tweeted, "Y'all as tempting as it may be, don't shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we've ever had! #2012." It has caused a ruckus in the blogosphere and offended many Americans.
