Taryam Omran Taryam was a United Arab Emirates
(UAE) diplomat and businessman.
He was born in the emirate of Sharjah and studied in Sharjah, Kuwait
and, ultimately, in Cairo
where he was influenced by the Arab nationalist ideology. He later became the first UAE ambassador to Egypt
.
Taryam cofounded Dar Al Khaleej
, a Sharjah-based publishing house, in 1970 with his brother Abdullah Omran Taryam (a former UAE Justice Minister). The company launched Al-Khaleej, a daily newspaper, the same year.
After the creation of the UAE from seven former British protectorates in 1971, he held the position of speaker of the Federal National Council
.
Taryam later returned to publishing as chairman of Dar Al Khaleej. In 1996, he launched The Gulf Today
, Sharjah's first English-language newspaper. He died in 2002 after being sick for an entire year.
