to Valentine's Day (the day he was born), "allen" referencing Allen Paulson and "zeri" referencing his mother the great Azeri. He was highly
thought off as a weanling and was consigned to the yearling sale where he was bought back for $7.7 Million by his previous owners the

Prominent Australian bloodstock agents Brian King & James Bester, together with Californian based agent Denny Boultinghouse, recommended and sold Zodiac Miss to Paulson, and the filly was subsequently shipped to the U.S.A. to race there for her new owner. At the end of her racing career, Allen Paulson sent Zodiac Miss to the breeding shed.

Paulson was an aerospace magnate (Gulfstream Aerospace) whose many global investments included racehorses, casinos and oil exploration. Paulson also bred and raced Cigar, who currently stands at #2 on the North American All-Time Money Earners' list.

Azeri was purchased for $110,000 at the 1999 Keeneland September yearling sale from the consignment of Jonabell Farm and trained by Laura de Seroux, one of the few women trainers in a man's world. Of her greatest horse, Seroux said, "She didn't let anyone down, and she did it in great style. She's simply the fastest filly in the world now. You can't catch her early, and you can't catch her late."

Allen Paulson died before he knew what Azeri would turn out to be, but his son Michael took over his father's role in her racing life.

, who herself was sired by another Triple Crown winner: Secretariat. He was the top-priced yearling of 1990 at $2.9 million.

Trained by Hall of Famer Neil Drysdale, A.P. Indy raced in 1991 and 1992. As a two-year old, after initially losing his first race and subsequently having a minor surgery (he had an undescended testicle removed), he reeled off successive victories in a maiden race, an allowance, and then the Grade I Hollywood Futurity. At three, he continued his winning streak with successive victories in the Grade II San Rafael Stakes and the Grade I Santa Anita Derby before being scratched from the Kentucky Derby on the morning of the race. He was then pointed towards the Grade II Peter Pan Stakes and the Grade I Belmont Stakes, of which he won both races. After a brief rest over the summer, he ran fourth in the Molson Million, and then ran a credible third in the Grade I Jockey Club Gold Cup (after a horrible stumble at the break that caused him to completely lose touch with the remaining horses). He then rebounded to easily win the Grade I Breeders' Cup Classic, in a hand ride, over a star-studded field of the top horses in training from around the world. In early 1993 he was voted the Eclipse Awards for the 1992 Horse of the Year and Champion three year old. In his career he had 11 starts, winning 8 and showing in one, earning a total of $2,979,815.
