TFOA is a United States Navy
acronym meaning "Things Falling Off Aircraft"; occasionally pronounced as "toe-fa", similar to "tofu".
Despite its somewhat humorous name, TFOA is a serious condition requiring the submission of a category 1 hazardous material report within twenty-four hours of the incident to the cognizant field authority (CFA) and type commander (TYCOM).
An example of TFOA would be a panel falling off an aircraft
and then landing in someone's front yard, larger structural parts shed during a catastrophic mechanical failure that caused the aircraft to crash or anything else that departs the airframe that is not supposed to.
The television show NCIS
had an episode in its first season, "The Curse", which revolved around a Navy Lieutenant being mummified inside of a 370 gallon cargo container for an F-14 Tomcat, which was filed 8 years before as a TFOA.
