Moon
The Moon is Earth's only known natural satellite,There are a number of near-Earth asteroids including 3753 Cruithne that are co-orbital with Earth: their orbits bring them close to Earth for periods of time but then alter in the long term . These are quasi-satellites and not true moons. For more...

Libration
In astronomy, libration is an oscillating motion of orbiting bodies relative to each other, notably including the motion of the Moon relative to Earth, or of Trojan asteroids relative to planets.-Lunar libration:...

Grignard (crater)
Grignard is a lunar impact crater on the lunar near side near the northern pole. The crater is located Northeast of Sylvester crater and is directly adjacent to the Hermite crater . The crater was adopted and named after French chemist Victor Grignard by the IAU in 2009.-External links: - Map of...

Hermite (crater)
Hermite is a lunar impact crater located along the northern lunar limb, close to the north pole of the Moon. It was first discovered in 1964. To the west is the crater Rozhdestvenskiy, and to the south are Lovelace and Sylvester. Grignard is located directly adjacent to the Southwest...

Pascal (crater)
Pascal is a lunar crater that lies near the northern limb of the Moon, on the western side of the pole. It is located to the north of the eroded crater Desargues, and just east of Brianchon. Pascal can be located by finding the crater Carpenter and then following the surface to the northwest...

. Due to its location, Sylvester receives sunlight at only a low angle.

This crater is generally circular, with a sharp-edged rim that has received only a moderate amount of wear. There are no craters of note along the rim, although Sylvester intrudes into a smaller, shallow-rimmed crater to the southeast. The interior floor is relatively flat, but puctuated by several tiny craters. At the mid-point is a small central peak.

Satellite craters

By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater mid-point that is closest to Sylvester.
