The Inner West line uses the two southernmost tracks of the six tracks passing through the station. Stanmore has a side platforms and an island platform accessed by a subway, with one face against the Down Suburban track where trains rarely stop.

History

A station opened at Stanmore in 1878. The Main Suburban railway line through Stanmore was quadruplicated in 1892, and sextuplicated in 1927 in association with electrification works. The island platform between the 'Down Suburban' and 'Up Local' tracks was the original station house and entrance, this became the current island platform on completion of quadruplication works in 1892.

The station is served by two to four trains per hour each way, with additional trains during weekday peak hours. During off-peak hours two of these four train services towards Regents Park terminate in Ashfield
