The fifth season of SpongeBob SquarePants
SpongeBob SquarePants
SpongeBob SquarePants is an American animated television series, created by marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg. Much of the series centers on the exploits and adventures of the title character and his various friends in the underwater city of "Bikini Bottom"...

premiered on April 13, 2007, with the episode "Friend or Foe". Just like in season four, the season DVDs were split by volume. The volume one DVD was released in Region 1 on September 4, 2007. The volume two DVD was released on November 18, 2008. The season was released in its entirety in Region 2 and Region 4.

Friend or Foe

Friend or Foe
Mr. Krabs tells about his past friendship with Plankton as well as the cause of their rivalry.
  • Note: There are two slight continuity errors in this episode. The first is the reaction when Mr. Krabs says that he and Plankton were best friends. They all gasp, particularly SpongeBob. However, in "Krabs vs. Plankton", Plankton says they used to be friends, but SpongeBob is not shocked at all. The second error is more noticeable, when Karen says that Plankton made the recipe for the Krabby Patty, but this may not be true because in "Enemy In-Law", Mr. Krabs says the Krabby Patty formula is an old family recipe but also if Plankton made the recipe he would know it already and have no use to steal the formula. Also, the recipe is revealed if the viewers look closely but it is the poisonous mixture and pots and pans with bottles. Additionally, in "Enemy In-Law", Plankton attempts to marry Krabs' mother, but since Krabs and Plankton were born on the same day, there is a chance that Krabs' new father could have been younger than he was! Also, in "Grandpappy the Pirate", Mr. Krabs says he was born with his father on a pirate ship, though in this episode he says he was born with Plankton.
