before transferring to the University of New Mexico
, where he was a two-time All-American. While at New Mexico, Levin played with future PGA Tour

. In 2004, he finished in a T-13 at the U.S. Open
(and was the low amateur), earning him an invitation back for the 2005 tournament, where he missed the cut. He turned professional in 2005.

season. His best finish that year was a T-7 at the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee
