History

The STAR team history started when the Malaysian Maritime coastal waters that divide the country into 5 regions also include 18 maritime districts and bases. It is indirectly puts the role of Malaysian Maritime as an agency which is responsible for any incidents that occur or disastrous areas of coastal waters. These include accidents at sea, damage ships, marine pollution and others. Certainly in many circumstances, a special forces should be formed to deal with whatever challenges that may be forced by the members of the Malaysian Maritime challenger while on duty in the waters of the country.

Recognizing this need, STAR has been created to help carrying out Malaysian Maritime special tasks. This includes tasks which are hard rescue at sea, diving to deliver the government goods valuable or secret documents that may be lost with the ship, special ship boarding and maritime counter-terrorism special duties. As many as 2 senior officers and 23 members of Malaysian Maritime has sent to take courses under supervision by Royal Malaysian Air Force PASKAU

Training

As many as 25 trainees successfully completed MMEA Commando Orientation Basic Course which started in on April to 25 May 2008 which held Indah Island which comprised one senior commission officer, one uncommission officer, three senior non commission officers and non commission officers.

Successful student to joining Commando Orientation Basic Course are those are succeeding in candidate selection test STAR team member which held on 19 December to 24 December 2007. According the Deputy Director Chief of Malaysian Maritime (Operations), Vice Admiral Dato' Noor Aziz Bin Yunan, the team needs more 200 members on the end of the year.

Which training held aims to reveal training and prepare candidates before they attend basic commando course real will be held training centre all three Malaysian Armed Forces. During training every student have to go through four phase namely phase one training preparation, implementation of two training phase, three training phase and closing four phase of training briefings. During orientation course implemented each student would pass four level of training which include level training a one in camp, level training two in forest, level training three in swamp and last of all level training four at sea. During four stages taught each student will be unveiled with physical construction education, small arms operation, read map, compass and protector, unarmed combat, swimming, long-distance running, navigation, survival effort, first aid and shooting practice.

Meanwhile, would also devise in teach first aid, war prisoner, amphibious attack as well as the end of endurance test.

On 14 November 2009, a 25 members of STAR team which ended the Commando Basic Training Course has undergone the Close Quarters Combat and Malaysian Maritime Special Ship Boarding and Rescue with 11 Royal Malaysian Navy PASKAL Alpha Team members on 1 November to 14 November 2009 at KD Panglima Hitam, RMN Naval Base, Lumut

. This training is conducted to ensure that members are able perform the duties and responsibilities entrusted to them are able to performed and when directed.

The training objective is to exposed members of the knowledge, techniques and close range combat tactics and special boarding. All personnels are also an exposed to the skills of handling the small arms. Apart from that level of confidence and leadership members exposed conditions and challenging situations where members need to take actions and decisions in a short time. This training also involves the Maritime ship and boat assets such as KM Gagah vessels and two Kilat (Lightning) boat classes from Lumut Maritime District (DM3).
