The South Wilford CofE Primary School began as a Free School that was built in 1736, pursuant to the will of Mr Benjamin Carter who, in 1732, left £200 for that purpose, and bequeathed for its support and for other charitable uses, property which now produces about £220 per annum, of which £60 is paid to the master, £5 for school books, £10 to the poor of Wilford

The building was substantially upgraded in 1886.

Temporary buildings were added in the late 1950s. A modern school replaced the mix of buildings during 2001/2002. The new building was occupied in September 2002. This was extended 2009 to provide additional class rooms. The old school buildings are no longer used by the school.

Today South Wilford School is housed in a modern building. The school has been awarded the Active Mark Award for exceptional sporting activities in 2005. 2006 and 2007. The Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 SATs
