History and characteristics

  • In 1961, Souris Regional High was officially opened by Premier Walter R Shaw.

  • In 1984, parts of Souris High was tore down and rebuilt, giving the school more classrooms, a new cafetorium, a new gymnasium, and a large, well-equipped spaces for carpentry, welding and motor vehicle repair.

  • In 2009, The school started taking in grade 8 students because of the schools in the area that were permanently closed on July 1st.

  • In 2011 the government had approved a request from the Eastern School District to build a new school in Souris to accommodate 625 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Planning and design for the new facility will be complete during 2011-2012 with construction slated for 2012-2014.

The school is currently the 2nd smallest in the province in terms of student enrollment and smallest in terms of area.
