The club originates from the men’s fellowship of M.A.O.S Ministries football team founded in 2002, which took part in inter-church competitions. In 2004 Elly Mboni Kalekwa took over the team and formed Sofapaka FC and the team eventually joined the Nationwide league . The team won the Kenyan Cup in 2007, while still playing in the Nationwide League and narrowly missed promotion to the Premier League by finishing second in their zone after Bandari FC
