Ann Arbor is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Washtenaw County. The 2010 census places the population at 113,934, making it the sixth largest city in Michigan. The Ann Arbor Metropolitan Statistical Area had a population of 344,791 as of 2010...

 situated on a 100+ acre site at the intersection of N. Maple Road and M14, and .5mi from the Huron river. The school opened in Fall 2008 with the intention to relieve overcrowding of the two existing high schools, Huron High School and Pioneer High School. The attendance area is the northwest area of Ann Arbor. The middle schools that matriculate students to Skyline are Forsythe Middle School and Clague Middle School. Each year a lottery is held for 125 open seats to provide opportunity for students outside the Skyline boundaries to participate in the four magnet programs (see details below). The school runs on a Trimester Schedule with 12 weeks in each trimester. Mastery Learning, grading for mastery and interdisciplinary connections are standard practice at Skyline. 21st century skills and critical thinking are integrated throughout every content area.

Small Learning Communities

Four Smaller Learning Communities (SLC) act as home base for students for four years, grades 9 through 12. Administrators, Counselors, teachers, and support personnel are attached to each learning community. SLC structures promotes common planning and teacher interaction. SLC structures/programs promote positive relationships between adults and students.

Skyline High has four Magnet Programs: Business, Marketing & Information Technology; Communication, Media & Public Policy; Design, Technology & Environmental Planning; Health & Medicine. Details of these Magnet Programs found at Skyline's Web Site

The Building

The building was funded by public consent with a bond issue. The architects were TMP Architecture, Inc. The builder was Granger Construction Company. The building was awarded LEED-NC Silver certification in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Counsel. Implementation of LEED practices provided reduced facility operating costs, a healthier environment, and conservation of natural resources. Skyline High School benefits from a geothermal heating and cooling system. This system, consisting of approximately 80 miles of PVC pipes buried 5 – 7 feet deep, uses the earth’s core temperature to regulate building comfort. Elective & Extra-Curricular Programs

Ann Arbor Public Schools have a tradition of excellence in academics as well as outstanding elective, and extra-curricular options. Skyline High School has been building on this tradition since it opened in the fall of 2008. Offerings include the National Honor Society, Junior State of America, Robotics Team, Cumulus Literary Magazine, and more. The school excels in its Music, Theater, Visual Arts and Athletic programs.
