Francis' brother, John Francis, is also a first-class cricketer, having played similarly for Somerset and Hampshire.

Francis has one Youth One-Day International under his belt, thanks to an under-19s tour of Pakistan in January 1997 in which he participated, but did not make any contribution with the bat. Since 2003 he has played in Twenty20 cricket.
