He was also a noted referee and among the big games in which he took charge was the 1958 All-Ireland final in which Dublin defeated Derry.

Death

He died in Bon Secours Hospital, Glasnevin, Aged 84. funeral took place from the Church of Our Mother of Divine Grace, Ballygall Road East to Dardistow cemetery.
