The Shire of Wambo was a Local Government Area located in the Darling Downs region of Queensland
, Australia
. The shire completely surrounded but did not include the town of Dalby
— which had its own municipal government
. It covered an area of 5709.7 square kilometres (2,204.5 sq mi), and existed as a local government entity from 1879 until 2008, when it amalgamated with the Town of Dalby
and the Shires of Chinchilla
, Murilla
and Tara
and the southern part of Taroom
to form the Western Downs Region.
On 15 March 2008, under the Local Government (Reform Implementation) Act 2007 passed by the Parliament of Queensland
on 10 August 2007, the Shire of Chinchilla merged with the Town of Dalby
and the Shires of Chinchilla
, Murilla
and Tara
and the southern part of Taroom
to form the Western Downs Region.

Wambo Division was created on 11 November 1879 as one of 74 divisions around Queensland under the Divisional Boards Act 1879. With the passage of the Local Authorities Act 1902, it became a shire on 31 March 1903.On 15 March 2008, under the Local Government (Reform Implementation) Act 2007 passed by the Parliament of Queensland
