Hurn has a mature body for his age and was he drafted at 187cm and 93kg. Following bulking up in the preseason, he is estimated to now weigh in at 100kg, making him one of the bulkiest rookies to have ever entered the AFL. He made his debut versus the Brisbane Lions
in April 2006, kicking a stunning long goal.
He was the Round 11, 2007 NAB Rising Star Award nominee, chosen for his consistently good performances throughout the season in such a top side.
He is now widely regarded to have the most penetrating kick in the AFL.

Hurn’s more professional career began whilst playing his two favourite sports simultaneously. He took on a rookie contract with SACA

Hurn played football for Central District, making it to two premierships in 2004 and 2005. In 2005, Hurn was picked captain of the U-18 South Australian side and also picked in the U-18 All-Australian selection in football.
Picked 13th in the first round in the 2005 draft to West Coast Eagles, Hurn was considered as one of the top players to come out of South Australia at that time.
