A servowriter is a complex machine
Machine
A machine manages power to accomplish a task, examples include, a mechanical system, a computing system, an electronic system, and a molecular machine. In common usage, the meaning is that of a device having parts that perform or assist in performing any type of work...

Hard disk platter
A hard-disk platter is a component of a hard-disk drive: it is the circular disk on which the magnetic data is stored. The rigid nature of the platters in a hard drive is what gives them their name . Hard drives typically have several platters which are mounted on the same spindle...

that positions the actuator arm.
Servo information are written at a certain frequency on the surface to help the hard drive head to reposition itself on the track and read/write correctly. This is the most critical part of the process of hard drive manufacturing.
A servowriter can be split in three major part : An accurate spindle that will set a perfect speed to help the head to fly on the surface and the right frequency to write the data. An actuator with precis positioning system to write the servo information on a perfect circle with a width of less than a micrometer and an electronic part that will write the servo information at the right frequency.
The head need to fly on the electromagnetic surface of the disk to place the spin up or down. The gap in the magnet will read or write using the
Laplace Force FL = idl^B
Usually a clock track is written on the disk at the same time with the servowriter to help the drive adjust it speed for the frequency index.
There is up to 120 servo informations written on the disk per rotation.
