Sambhal is an ancient settlement that was also important during the period of Muslim rule and was one of Sikandar Lodi ’s provincial capitals in the late 15th and early 16th centuries.
It's location near a rail terminus, makes it an important trade center for agricultural produce. Its industries include sugar refining, hand-loom weaving, and calico printing. The city is the scene of annual Muslim and Hindu fairs.

As per provisional reports of Census India, population of Sambhal in 2011 is 221,334; of which male and female are 116,008 and 105,326 respectively. The sex ratio of Sambhal city is 908 per 1000 males.

In education section, total literates in Sambhal city are 92,608 of which 51,382 are males while 41,226 are females. Average literacy rate of Sambhal city is 49.51 percent of which male and female literacy was 52.27 and 46.45 percent.

Education

Education in district(Sambhal)Bhimnagar is on peak, there are people who cut their daily needs in order to put their children in good school. Earlier there were parents who thought that their kids will help them in doing their work whether its related to agriculture or something else, but now due to increased focus of Indian government on compulsory education up to the age of 14 the odds have changed.There are schools coming up with hostel facilities, several new colleges are being built for providing good higher education in the area, and thus have helped villages like Hajibeda, Singhpur, Chitavali, areas adjoining Nagli and Sambhal to produce Doctors, Engineers, Entrepreneurs in growing India.
