The name Ruptured Ambitions derives from founder Chris Willsher’s experiences at an audition for the role of Hook in a Peter Pan musical in January 1989. On the day of the audition Willsher was suffering from a severe case of piles or haemorrhoids for which he required an urgent doctor’s appointment. The appointment overran, making Willsher late for his audition and, in his haste to get to the theatre, he agitated his haemorrhoids to such an extent that they burst or ruptured. In too much pain to actually attend his audition, Willsher’s ambition to play the part of Hook was ‘ruptured’ by the rupturing of his haemorrhoids. Later that year Willsher drew on his experiences when naming his new label and distro.
