Moon
The Moon is Earth's only known natural satellite,There are a number of near-Earth asteroids including 3753 Cruithne that are co-orbital with Earth: their orbits bring them close to Earth for periods of time but then alter in the long term . These are quasi-satellites and not true moons. For more...

. It lies to the northwest of the flooded crater Crüger
Crüger (crater)
Crüger is a lunar crater that is located in the western part of the Moon, to the northeast of the much larger walled plain Darwin. The most distinctive feature about this crater is very dark interior floor that is one of the lowest albedo features on the Moon. The surface has been covered in...

, and to the west of the Montes Cordillera
Montes Cordillera
Montes Cordillera is a mountain range on the Moon. This feature forms the outer wall of peaks that surround the Mare Orientale impact basin, the inner ring being formed by the Montes Rook...

. Just to the east-southeast of Rocca is the small Lacus Aestatis
Lacus Aestatis
Lacus Aestatis consists of two relatively small areas of lunar mare located near the western limb of the Moon. The selenograpic coordinates of this feature are 15.0° S, 69.0° W, and it lies within a diameter of 90 km...

, a small lunar mare
Lunar mare
The lunar maria are large, dark, basaltic plains on Earth's Moon, formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. They were dubbed maria, Latin for "seas", by early astronomers who mistook them for actual seas. They are less reflective than the "highlands" as a result of their iron-rich compositions, and...

This crater lies within the skirt of ejecta that surrounds the Mare Orientale
Mare Orientale
Mare Orientale is one of the most striking large scale lunar features, resembling a target ring bull's-eye. Located on the extreme western edge of the lunar nearside, this impact basin is difficult to see from an Earthbound perspective.Material from this basin was not sampled by the Apollo program...

impact basin, and radial streaks of material have modified the surroundings of Rocca. The crater itself is in poor condition with small craters along the rim and deposited material along the rim and interior. Rocca R cuts across the northern rim, while the smaller Rocca L lies along the southern edge and inner wall.

Satellite craters

By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater mid-point that is closest to Rocca.
