Although the centre of the village contains some very old properties there has been some expansion in recent years and some 'in-fill' with new houses and bungalows. Oil was discovered a few years ago and nodding donkey oil-wells can be seen on some of the surrounding farmland. They are part of the Welton, Lincolnshire

 oil field. A gathering station for the oil is situated a few miles outside the village but has little impact on the village. The oil is transported by railway to refineries at Immingham on the Humber Estuary. There are current plans to store gas underground once the oilfield has stopped producing oil. See link.
