 . He is a member of Uttar Pradesh legislative Council. A homeopathic doctor, he has served in other party positions. He held the post of UP BJP General Secretary before being appointed as BJP's UP chief in September 2007, a position he carried on till May 11, 2010, thereafter being replaced by Surya Pratap Shahi. His son Sharad Tripathi contested the Sant Kabir Nagar Lok Sabha seat in May 2009 as the BJP candidate but only managed to finish runner up by just under 30,000 votes to BSP's Bhisma Shankar.
