On 13 August 2009, Yadav made the news when his men had allegedly opened fire in Phoolpur (in Azamgarh) after his cavalcade got involved in a road accident; a youth died and three others suffered gunshot injuries. The Deputy Inspector General, Azamgarh, KK Tripathi, said efforts are being made to arrest Yadav and the other accused.
