The Powerhouse has been located in four separate locations over its lifetime. Originally a Basement club on Waterloo Street in the 1980s and launched by Property developer and Entrepreneur Sam Hamandi of Trafalgar Leisure Ltd. Powerhouse is the only gay club in the City, and has been an integral part of gay life in the city for over 20 years.

In 2008 the club, now located on Westmoreland Road, was leased to Pure Leisure Ltd, and promoter and marketer Craig Wilde

The club is noted for its four floors, roof terrace and as a major tour venue for stars from The X Factor
