Point Village

The Point Village is a new 'city quarter' in the North Wall area of Dublin, Ireland
. The €800 million development is currently under construction and was planned to feature a shopping centre, a cinema complex, a museum, offices and a hotel plus a five-storey underground car park.
, a smaller music venue which operated from 1988 to 2007. Following its closure, the site underwent major redevelopment and was renamed after O2.
Situated beside The O2 is a 252-bed hotel, The Gibson Hotel, opened in June 2010 and including nine suites, with access to terrace gardens and private access to the O2. It also includes a spa, gymnasium, two outdoor hot-tubs and large conference facilities.
The Point Village Market is the city's largest outdoor weekend market. It is held at the Point Village Square, beside The O2. The market takes place on Saturday and Sunday of every week.
A €10m "observation wheel" is located in the centre of Point Village Square.
Due to the recent economic downturn, the planned shopping centre element is currently delayed.
There were also plans to build a 120 metre skyscraper (called the 'Point Village Watchtower') which would have included apartments, office space, a miniature TV and radio studio, and rooftop bar and restaurant with panoramic views over Dublin Bay. This project has been abandoned due to the difficult economic climate faced by the Docklands Authority
. However the foundations for the building have been completed and covered over. In October 2010 Harry's bar opened for business in the foundations of the building under the main square.
