History

Pius X High School was established on October 1, 1956 as the central Catholic high school for the city of Lincoln and the Diocese of Lincoln. Since its earliest years, Pius has grown to over 1,000 students in grades 9-12, with over 80 faculty and staff made up of both religious and lay people. When the school was named after Pope St. Pius X, it took its patron’s motto, "To restore all things in Christ", as its guiding mission.

On February 16, 2007, had the privilege of welcoming Former Nebraska Cornhusker football coach Dr. Tom Osborne as a guest speaker. Dr. Osborne talked to the school about the importance of character and how one's character is shaped by everyday choices.

During the 2010-2011 school year, Imaculee Ilibagiza came to talk to the school about how she forgave the man who killed her family during the Rwandan Genocide and how we are all called to forgive, now matter what horrors are done to us. Also during this school year, Pius was one of the winners of Kohl's Cares, a program set up by Kohls to give 20 schools $500,000. Pius teamed up with Lake High School and Our Lady Of The Presentation and helped the schools make it to and stay in the top 20, with Lake High School actually coming in first.

During the 2007-2008 school year, Pius was made a member of the Catholic Honor Roll, distinguishing the top 50 Catholic High Schools in the United States of America.
