.It is famous for its textile product specially bedsheet. According to the myths city got its name in British age, there was an elephant named PIL, and it was lost, when the queen soldiers were running here and there in search of the PIL (Elephant), village people used to ask what happened, they used to replied in short PIL Khuwa ( PIL Khoo Gaya < PIL is lost>)the place where the queen elephant was lost named Pilkhuwa.

, Pilkhuwa had a population of 67,191 (2001). Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Pilkhuwa has an average literacy rate of 62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 52%. In Pilkhuwa, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Expansion and industrialization in Pilkhuwa started in 1977 with the introduction of petrol pump set up by Lala. Shiv Kumar Garg Jee, He is one of the pioneers responsible for the development of city. The fuel station opened by him decades back is known by the name of Shiv Service Station. When abundant petrol was not available, the city progressed slowly. Now its considered to be one of the fastest developing cities in Uttar Pradesh and has remarkable presence in fields of textiles at international level.

Pilkhuwa is famous for Gandhi's dream 'Khadi'. Pilkhuwa is well known for small industries for manufacturing the Canvas, Khadi and printing work. Bedsheets, and towels are very famous. Some large manufacturers export quality products to other parts of India, as well as abroad. This city is known as the textile City for the same reason.
As the city is near Delhi hardly 35 km. far, it lies in NCR ( National Capital Region) area, now an emerging place for High Education Institutes. In past 5 years, city has developed 15 colleges in fields of Medicine, Engineering, Law and varied. Decent number of schools are also in the city. Most famous ones being the St. Xavier's Convent School,DAV Pubilc school, VIP Pub;ic School, Sarvodya Inter College, Marwar Inter College, Marwar Girls Inter College,K.M.S Inter College etc. Numerous schools for primary education are also established in the city to cater to local education. All schools are affiliated to either CBSE, ICSE, or the UP State Board.

Pilkhuwa is also served by several NGO's like Rajeev Gandhi Mission of Computer Education, UPDESCO, Ablaze Educational Society and more.

Apart from this, city is now the next destination of new face of development as big players in Real Estate are moving toward the City as it is near the projected Famous Reliance Power Plant & NTPC is already in production. The City is on the.Delhi-Lucknow national highway (NH24). The railway station serves regular passenger trains to Delhi on Lucknow and Haldwani line. Also buses are frequently available to travel to and from Delhi, and other parts of UP.
There are many famous temples such as Chandi Devi Mandir, Radha Krishan Mandir etc. Master Rajpal Singh is the local MLA.
Pilkhuwa is also famous for its charitable work. The Satyam Shivam Sundaram Charitable Eye Hospital established by Shri Dina Nath Gupta is one example of its philanthropists.

Pilkhuwa can be seen to becoming a more developed and expanded city in near 10 years. With existing facilities of municipal water lines, electricity, internet, roads, schools, colleges hospitals, market, business, and small scale industries, population can be expected to rise gradually, giving it a more significant position on the state map. With presence of skilled labor in field of textiles and others, the city is likely to attract investors in textile and other small/medium scale industries.
