 in the All-Ireland final. In 1999 Barry won a second provincial title, however, after reaching the All-Ireland final once again Kilkenny were beaten by an unfancied Cork team. In 2000 Kilkenny continued their provincial dominance and Barry won a third Leinster title. The prospect of losing a third All-Ireland final was unpalatable to Kilkenny, so much so that they completely destroyed Offaly in one of the most one-sided All-Ireland finals ever, giving Barry a first winners' medal

 in the final. Barry won a sixth consecutive provincial medal in 2002 before adding a third All-Ireland medal to his collection after Kilkenny defeated Cork in an exciting championship decider. In 2004 Kilkenny were aiming for an unprecedented third All-Ireland title in-a-row. The chance of claiming a seventh consecutive Leinster title ended at the semi-final stage as Wexford

 defeated their greatest rivals with a lat minute goal. The chance of winning that third All-Ireland in-a-row was still on the cards, however, as Kilkenny squared up against Cork in a second consecutive championship decider. The game turned out to be a dull affair as Cork ended Kilkenny's dream with a 0-17 to 0-9 score line. In 2005 Barry was appointed captain of the team. He won his seventh Leinster title that year, however, Kilkenny were later beaten by Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final. Barry retired from inter-county hurling following that defeat.
